I find politics to be about as fascinating as watching paint dry. A lot of that stems from the vocabulary that people like George Stephanopoulos throw around on TV. Now I will say that voting is important, and that we all should, but as for all the mud slinging and debating, just show me the ESPN highlight reel, and that's more than plenty for me.
One term that I wasn't familiar with has been cropping up a lot - Super Delegates. Sounded like a new crop of super hero's or the latest and greatest nano-technological advance. Not quite, but still a bit interesting.
The democratic party holds their 2008 Democratic National Convention this fall to determine their candidate for the U.S. Presidency. I guess typically these things are pretty much decided WAY before the fact, and it's just a mere formality. But with Obama and Clinton still neck and neck (more like grabbing each other's throat's) these Super delegates are becoming a serious cause for concern amongst the democratic party.
Evidently there is a group of folks (delegates) that vote during the convention for who the candidate will be. Most of those delegates (80%) are determined based on the state primaries and caucuses, so their vote is already tied to a candidate. The SUPER Delegates are seated automatically based on their current or former status as a party official. That means that this remaining 20% can vote for who ever they want to. (How Democratic!)
I just find it hilarious that "democrats" (I use that term loosely) are starting to sweat because it might end up that the folks no one officially has in their pocket could determine their candidate for 2008. Isn't that what we all really say we want? The ability to vote for our own candidate?? Everyone wants the power to be the determining vote, as long as it's them. But when it's thrown to the wind and it's in the hands of others.. well... I digress..
Whew, I am getting bored with in now, so I'll back off.. I am now about as interested as watching frog hair grow, which is about a pint more than I was before. And to these "Super delegates", I say "This Bud is for you", because I bet they are getting some serious wining and dining these days...
Until Next Time..
